Holiday crafting for my neighbors, postal agent…..etc

Ornaments….. fast and furious…. than previously experiences addressing each item individually by tediously painting or stenciling.

Not sure if everyone has tried this decoupage method using decoupage medium and a heat source like an iron.

Maybe….I’m the one late to the party?!

If you haven’t tried it -please do…. it is not frustrating and such an easy flawless mindless application-it’s very much like using HTV.

Find your favorite decorative paper napkins -peel off those extra layered plys and resize image or design to make your outline shape (cut or rip) fit your project.

Paint- I use white chalked paint front/back on my projects…..dollar tree flat canvas panels, wooden plaques or sanded repurposed created Dollar General created-blanks. (Using what I have available-I live rural and rarely get to a real craft store)

I understand it is recommended to try to use the same background color that matches your napkin for a seamless look

After surface has dried - coat your painted blank surface with with two separate coats of decoupage medium -I used modpodge and let that dry thoroughly between each coats.

The next day using either a household iron or a mini press —-iron the decorative napkin image to the painted-Modpodge-prepared surface. I used a piece of parchment paper between prepped surface-napkin illustration and the the iron—- to protect surfaces.

After about five seconds of heat continue moving the iron to apply heat— to the entire image sealing it to the canvas or plaque.

Heat application is going to reactivate the Mod podge sealer and seal the tissue image into the medium.

Allow it to cure fully and if necessary take the sandpaper/nail file to do the angled approach edge sanding method to remove any overlap excess tissue at the edges.

If desired you could Mod podge over the entire project. It may not be necessary.

It couldn’t be easier - perfect adhesion -no wrinkles really amazing opportunity to decoupage without frustration and ability mass produce ornaments.

Also scrapbook paper can be attached this way —-pretty amazing!

I have also painted on top of the transferred image without any problem to enhance details.

My second round with the dollar tree 4 x 4 plaques I did paint a shadowy background prior to heat decoupage…..my first time doing this….and it seemed not to cause a problem.

Examples seen now in photos are not finished, just heat transferred sealed them this evening. Ideally plan some more painting, perhaps a snowy splatter layering to be done….and then the reverse side personalization. Imagine glitter is always a fun option to consider as well.

It saves time when you have lots to do including all the normal activities along with holiday cooking, baking, decorating, wrapping, crafting ….and the results look fabulous. Hope that you might give it a try.
