Submitted to What's New

Creator's, we are delighted to share another member feature: getting to know Creator's Studio Superfan, SchreiberWI!

"This is a photo of myself and my husband from 26 years ago. That Christmas I was making a quilt for his parents and my mom's sewing machine broke the day before Christmas Eve. This was before we were married. He ended up running and buying my Mom a new sewing machine for Christmas so I could finish the quilt for his parents. Later that night he was crawling into the quilt to straighten the corners so he knew what he was in for before he even married me :)"

Why did you join Creator's Studio?

A friend and former co-worker recommended Creator’s Studio to me.

What's your favorite part of the Creator's Studio community?

I enjoy the encouragement, info sharing and support within the community. I love when a challenge is announced and I see the submissions come in.

How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?

When not working I could best be described as always working on some project. I love making gifts for others. I remember sitting in a middle school study hall stitching dish towels together to give to the ladies that served lunch. It was’t a school project it was just because I wanted to spread an little holiday cheer.  I also enjoy supporting our schools and local non profits by donating various handmade items for auction or raffle.

What creative areas do you like to focus on?

I really try to recycle and reuse whenever possible. A coat of paint can give an old unwanted piece of furniture new life. This holiday season I gifted some old sleds that I stenciled and then decorated with seasonal greenery from a local thrift store.

What is your favorite Rust-Oleum product? How has it helped with your DIY projects?

That is a hard one. I am still amazed at the Countertop Transformations kit we used in our bathroom transformation. I also like the results I receive with the stains and the 2X Ultra Color spray paint. However if I would have to pick only one it would be Chalked paint, it is probably my go to paint.

What interests you most about DIY projects?

Trying different products and techniques. I really want to try Modern Masters Metal Effects Patina. I think a combo of the blue, green and rust would be beautiful together.

What's the best DIY project you have completed and how did you accomplish it?

The play kitchen my husband and I worked on together for the trash to treasure challenge is my favorite. It was fun adding in all the details, our adult daughter loved it so much she is keeping it for when she has children.

What's the most difficult project you have tackled?

That would be the bathroom. From plumbing to tiling we learned so much during the transformation.

If you could create any type of project (with no limitations), what would you design and why?

I would love to build a gathering/creation space so my husband could regain control of his shop. A nice heated area with a small overhead door for furniture as well as plumbing would be a dream project. We host during the holidays an it would be nice to have enough space to sit 24 people or provide space for multiple people working on a project at once.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.

I wish I was more artistic. When I see some of these beautiful creations I am just in awe. There is a furniture artist I follow and she posts tutorials of her working on her pieces. Her work just flows so natural and looks effortless.

What's the best advice that anyone has ever given you?

I spent my summers with my mom’s friend, she is like a mom to me. I remember complaining about something when I was young and she told me, “if nothing changes, nothing changes.”

That has stayed with me and taught me you have to want to make the change in your life and nothing is going to happen on it’s own.

What book(s) are on your nightstand right now?

Coming Home for Christmas by RaeAnne Thane and Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas Treasury.

What's your all time favorite food?

Anything on a grill :)

Here's a photo gallery of some of @SchreiberWI's other projects - enjoy!
