My family photo is from Christmas 2020, the very last picture of my crew with my father-in-law. [L to R] Hailie (my daughter), Lloyd (my hubby), me, William (my son), Lloyd (my father-in-law), Katelyn (my bonus daughter). I owe all that I know about woodworking to my father-in-law.
What brought you to Creator's Studio?
I joined Creator's Studio in hopes of meeting new people that enjoy DIY projects and hoping to learn more useful techniques on how to apply different types of products to my projects. Not to mention hoping to be one of the selected ones to try out products!!!
What's your favorite part of the Creator's Studio community?
The love and support from each other. We all come from different backgrounds and different parts of the world, but yet we all join together and encourage one another. Knowing that when someone comments on our post, there will not be any type of mean rude things said to each other, it will always be 🌟 Happy!! and Thoughtful!!!! 🌟 [ @KandieWood - we couldn't agree more!]
How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?
I am an Agricultural Production Manager. I assist in the day to day operations of my husband's family ranch in Northeast Oklahoma. During calving time, I keep an eye on the cows and first-time heifers to make sure there are no issues.
This is my very first bottle steer Buddie, who is now 4 years old and thinks he is still little. He weighs in around 900 pounds.
What creative areas do you like to focus on?
Woodworking and my Cricut Maker (trying to learn how to get a makers mark on metal).
What is your favorite Rust-Oleum product? How has it helped with your DIY projects?
The brush-on hammered paint, I just wish it came in more colors. This paint being brush-on in silver saved my life about a year ago. My hubs built an archway with wagon wheels and horseshoes for his Papa when he passed away at the cemetery over the headstone. Being made out of metal we wanted the colors to match the Ranch colors ( King Ranch Colors) but the trick was finding a paint that can withstand the weather and effects from the lake. Since I could brush on the paint it was easy to use and get the mini wagon wheels painted, without getting paint everywhere.
What interests you most about DIY projects?
The thought of accomplishing something on my own that no one will take over and away from me doing.
What's the best DIY project you have completed and how did you accomplish it?
My daughter's request for book shelves - but not for books. In all I ended up making 20 three teired shelves for her to display her Build A Bears and that was not enough. Once they are all to their new home I will go and seal the edges and install plexiglass on the front of them. It has taken me over three years to accomplish this task, unfortunately currently the shelves had to be taken back apart and put in storage. I hope one day to have them doing their intended job!!
This is my biggest project to date. This is a plexiglass display for my daughter Hailie, for her beloved Def Leppard blanket she got at the concert in 2018 in Tulsa, OK.
What's the most difficult project you have tackled?
Trying to remember everything my father in law told me the year before he passed away. Every single project since last August has been difficult to accomplish and several are just not done.
If you could create any type of project (with no limitations), what would you design and why?
I would build my dream house, well a shouse. Where the shop and house are connected. The shop would be bigger than the house, three bay doors on the south side, one semi bay door on the east. With a very very well organized tool area, built-in dust collection center, polyurethane sealed off room, paint room, grinding room, and cricut/ leather room. The house would be one story with the upstairs part wide open for storage. Four bedroom, with a massive farmhouse kitchen. Nothing fancy no quartz or silly counter tops. Everything simple and rustic. In the master suite there will be a secret door that is in the closet that goes under the shop when I can hide when tornados show up. And where all my fancy expensive protection is kept...
Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.
I am a hard-headed stubborn southern girl. If you tell me I can't or don't, you might as well save your breath, I'm going to do it just to make you mad. Then I will do it better than you ever thought about.
What's the best advice that anyone has ever given you?
Never allow anyone to tell you that you can't do something.
What book(s) are on your nightstand right now? What shows are you streaming?
I don't have a nightstand nor do I watch TV! Our home is 30 miles from where we currently are. Which is under major construction still, just so it can be put on the market to sell.
What's your all time favorite food?
Crab legs... I will drive miles for 'all you can eat' crab legs. I went to New Hampshire a few years ago, that was all I ate the month I was there; and mussels ... yum.
