4 Things To Do To Clean Your Deck

Submitted to What's New

Hey there, Creators!

We’re gearing up for the colder winter months around Rust-Oleum’s headquarters. We experience harsh winters here (it is Chicagoland, after all) and we know how important is it to take care of our wood decks so they last through the years. Even if you live in a more temperate location, your deck needs a little TLC before winter.

We want to help save you time and money when you refresh your deck. It doesn’t have to take a whole weekend or tons of money. Here are four things you should do:

Clear it

Remove that patio furniture and grill. Move all things off your deck so you have full access to all of the deck wood. You’ll want nothing on the deck so you can clean it thoroughly.

Sweep it

Grab a broom and sweep off any leaves, debris, or dirt. You’ll want a clear surface when you wash the wood.

Protect around it

If you have plants or grass nearby, you’ll want to cover them with an old sheet or under a box to protect them from any overspray of your cleaner and protectant.

Clean it

Rust-Oleum’s Renovator Deck Cleaner and Sealer cleans and provides waterproofing protection. You’ll save time on your cleaning process as it attaches to a hose end and can be applied and dried quickly. No scrubbing or rinsing is necessary! Just spray it on, use a brush to lightly clean the area, apply a second coat for sealer protection, and let it dry. That’s it.

After a season’s worth of outdoor entertaining, your deck will benefit from clearing, cleaning and protecting. In other words, little bit of prep work and cleaning now will protect it through winter and make sure it’s in tip-top shape when spring arrives again.
