How long have you worked for Rust-Oleum?
I’ve been with Rust-Oleum for 5 years! I previously worked in Rust-Oleum Product Support, so you may have occasionally seen me around in the Ask the Expert board.
What is your job at Rust-Oleum?
I just joined the Communications Team as the Assistant Manager for Public Relations & Corporate Communications.
How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?
As I like to say, I’m full of ‘Jen’ergy! But what does that mean exactly? Well I’m quirky, kooky, and never afraid to loosen up and inject a little fun into my life. My friends often compare me to Leslie Knope from Parks & Recreation. For my occupation, I’d say that I handle many aspects of the internal-facing PR and communications to employees.
What's your favorite part of the Creator's Studio community?
My favorite part of this community is how eager everyone is to provide feedback and voice their opinion. And the creativity is certainly inspiring!
What creative areas do you like to focus on?
Oh, I am a bit of a renaissance person when it comes to creative endeavors. Jack of all trades, master of none. Sewing, embroidery, modeling, painting, woodworking, writing, cosplay, interior design, the list goes on. But first and foremost, I love to draw. I’m in the works on a web comic actually. This drawing is unrelated to the comic, but it’s a little taste of what I can do – a self-portrait of me!
What is your favorite Rust-Oleum product? How has it helped with your DIY projects?
I personally love using the Zinsser SmartCoat Wall Paint. It is quite forgiving and touch-ups blend well. The walls of my house are almost entirely this paint.
What interests you most about DIY projects?
The joy of the final result is what I can never get enough of. To be able to point to something and say, “I made that!” is the best feeling ever.
What's the most difficult project you have tackled?
One of the most difficult projects I’ve tackled was building shelving for my walk-in closet. The wire shelves inside collapsed one day and my jaw dropped at the price of shelving systems. So, I rolled up my sleeves and built my own. The difficulty that came with it was the amount of time it took to get everything right with the measurements and ensuring the shelves would hold. After 2 years with no problems, I’d say it was a resounding success!
If you could create any type of project (with no limitations), what would you design and why?
Hands down I would work on my web comic if I had all the resources I needed. But it’s a lot of work and just one person on the job makes the whole process tediously slow. I wish I could tell you all about it, but I’m keeping my cards close to my chest!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.
I’m a well-traveled gal and I plan to do more – my plans just got delayed because of the pandemic. I’ve been to 9 countries and 22 cities. I lived in Dublin, Ireland for three months with an internship in the Irish Parliament and even traveled through Scotland by myself (highly recommend).
What's the best advice that anyone has ever given you?
You should always treat EVERYONE with kindness because you never know what battles someone is facing in that moment and not presume someone’s struggle is greater or lesser than someone else’s. Everyone’s feelings are valid. But at the same time, you can still be kind and set healthy boundaries with others. It’s all about communicating it respectfully.
What's your all-time favorite food?
I can’t get enough of kettle corn. I scarf that down way too fast. Someone has to stop me.
What else do you do in your free time?
I play a lot of table-top roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons. I have a bunch of friends my husband and I play with weekly. We’re obsessed and is yet another creative outlet of mine.
