Ask the Expert Responses: Part 2

Part 2 of our Q&A series of member questions for Rust-Oleum product experts.

Question from @lcapritta How do I avoid clogged spray nozzles? Without fail, when I grab a can of spray paint after it sits awhile, the nozzle is clogged. I'm pretty good at remembering to turn it upside down and spray a few seconds before I put it away, and yet it'll still sputter, drip, or do nothing at all. I've tried borrowing a nozzle from another can, and that works sometimes, but not always. What can I do to bring new life to a dead can?

Answer from @Nicole: That's not what we like to hear! Inside of the can is a dip tube that pulls the paint from the bottom of the can to the tip. If the pigment in the paint is too big or if there's not enough pressure behind it, it can get stuck in the tube or tip and the paint won't spray. Try turning the can upside down and spraying for a few seconds. If the clog is in the tip, you can also soak it in a solvent like acetone or mineral spirits to try to clear the nozzle. If these don't work for you, give us a call at (877) 385-8155!

Question from @Shall970 I have an antique mirror that the silvering has come off on the edges, can I use the Rust-Oleum silver mirror spray paint and overlap it and then should it be painted with a protective coat over the whole thing?

Answer from @Nicole: The Rust-Oleum Specialty Mirror Finish is actually for the glass portion of a project. The way the product works is that you actually spray it from the reverse side and not directly on the top of the surface. That's how the reflective finish will take form.

If you're looking for a silver paint, we'd suggest the Rust-Oleum Universal Advanced Paint + Primer in One for your needs:

Question from @hale5torm08: Super Glaze How-To: I’m in love with the super glaze product and would love to use this to finish off a farmhouse style dining set I restored for a neighbor as it has a life of high traffic and epoxy seems to be the best for protection on the table top. But the directions on the kit are terrible, and online there's nothing for a video diy or really anything about this product to be found for a first time user. It states you need a heat gun? Can a blow dryer be used instead? What about set up before applying, a detailed how-to guide for a beginner would be AMAZING for this product as no matter how hard I looked I found nothing for tutorials or any sort of detailed instructions!

Answer from our Varathane Wood Care Team: We're glad you brought this to our attention @hale5torm08 - we've created a video with step by step instructions. Find it here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CcG7B71AvhD/
