What would you do?

So my back door is in desperate need of a refresh!  What would you do? Any suggestions?  

The house is ~45 years old and this appears to be the original door - I do not believe it is solid wood.

I don't want to take the door off :) and I need to be able to close the door at the end of the day.  

I am partial to the idea of the weathered gray gel stain or the barn red, but I'm finding the idea of stripping, staining and varathane (in place) overwhelming.  I'm leaning to just painting - any suggestions?  My front door was replaced 2 years ago and is bright blue :)
