How can I stain a butcher block countertop?

Submitted to Community Chat

Hey guys, we are in the process of redoing our kitchen and we bought an unfinished butcher block top for part of the countertop. I'd really like to stain it a dark cherry color some how, but it has to be safe for food to be on. (I make a lot of homemade bread and I'd be rolling dough out on it a lot, I probably won't be cutting meat or anyting on it though.) So far all I can find is using mineral oil to seal the wood, but I'm having a hard time finding food safe stain for it. Any ideas?
