No man is an island...

... but your Kitchen might need one!

This is a modified design from something the Shabby2Chic girls posted on their blog. I had to do my own thing because I have EXTREMELY NARROW doors coming into my kitchen.

Lots of kitchens can benefit from more counterspace - but the question is: do you need it ALL the TIME? Or should it be able to move? A rolling island can be the best solution for a smaller space!

This piece was all put together with standard lumber, some black gas pipe, and a few heavy duty steel casters from Northern Tool. I used some generic brass hooks under the surface of the island to hang all my pots and pans (I like to "air out" my cast iron because I leave them a little wet and seasoned).

All in all, I think I spent $150 on this one. The Stain is Rustoleum DARK WALNUT and the finish is a Clear Gloss. To achieve a softer look - I stained, sanded over the top, and stained again. Then I applied the poly in a few coats to make sure it was good for food prep.
