Whitewash with chalk paint - need to try

This wooden bucket is painted to perfection with a whitewash chalk paint chalk paint application.
I wonder if the that bucket was sealed prior to whitewashing to make a wipe off possible. Old wood can be dry. Not sure how hard it is to get this perfect gradation.
Now I am on the hunt for the perfect wooden bucket- planter or other wooden item to try my hand at this whitewash technique.
