Had a handful of existing Jenga block here were used enough to make exactly one block. So a box of Dollar Tree Jengas were purchased to make additional required beads needed to match inspo while also have a spares ready…. if any breakage with drilling and potentially make a clasp. Less than 1/3 box used with planning to have practice beads for drilling and spares.

More specific details on how the project was made because of the text restrictions above

All 54 blocks provided were glued together in dimensional tiered shaped blocks. Enough to make 12 blocky stacked formations. Additionally a handful of existing and some DT blocky shapes glued to potentially supplement the need to mirror quantity viewed in the inspo piece and or have some spares in case of breakage, with sanding or drilling. Adhesive allowed to cure.

Blocky tiered glued Jenga stacks next were aggressively - individually sanded over several days to attain similar depth + shape desired for each independent bead shape. Significant wood dimension removed. Hard edges first rounded and later faceted. Not recommended - used belt + orbital sanders reversed to an upright position -hand holding blocks to shape as we do not have a fancy wood working shop situation/mounted power tools.

Toggle clasp made from 3 wood rings removed from a necklace - glued together -appropriately sized toggle bar created and two tiny eye bolts that were clipped shorter placed in each. Dremmeled surface smooth. Some deep crack seams were on the exterior edges of the three glued rings, some Durhams water putty applied to fill stacked gap areas. Some additional small beads necessary-added to make toggle bar insertion easily operational thru ring. Rustoleum Imagine chrome dual tip pen used to color to clasp. It was an unbelievable, unexpected, metallic brightness and mirrored shine. I felt like I was coloring with molten silver. This was my favorite product in the mystery box to use. I expected it to be the stain -loving that finish - but this chrome pen exceeded my expectations

After several hours, total four afternoon sessions of outdoor sanding switched over to Dremmel + Gator hand sanders for final bead smoothing prior to the color application.

There is considerable concern about porous soft nature of the jenga blocks and how they will accept paint and stain. The heat and pressure of sanding made the newly created shapes have some furry wood edges that needed manual sanding. Expect that some priming will be necessary for a pleasing result prior to final mystery box paint and stain coatings.

Grain enhancer applied to select accent beads that will be stained. Later stained with Varathane and after dry was sealed with 2x Satin Clear.
Black acrylic paint first applied to the other remaining beads. Then decided to try out the new-to-me Universal black stainless. It was my hope that the black base coating will help support, seal, float the metallic top coat above in hopes to create a nice depth in the metallic finish give it a stone look— hoping for an interesting and appropriate pearly metallic hematite look for shaped wood beads. Applied the sterling silver metallic paint and buffed it in/off to some degree trying to get a dimensional application rather than a deep solid uniform metallic coating. Having some woodgrain texture despite the base coating I do not want to specifically highlight that.
Beads individually drilled and strung using doubled length of natural braiding cord. Each bead individually knotted into place. Toggle closure on wire attached -threaded and knotted. Minor touch ups, particularly eyebolts.
Saw one bead inserted wrong direction: drilled holes, torn apart and completely restrung ( 😔one bead broke/reglued) and finally….. satisfied with results. Ready to wear. Another chunky necklace a tribute to Iris Apels iconic styling.

Intended to make a bracelet with extra leftover beads..maybe later……
