Using native plants rather than the more common non-native plants that are usually found more easily at our local nurseries help our environment by reduce watering needs amongst several other ways.

It does take extra effort, maybe cost to find these plants suitable to our location and our pollinators needs.

The attached graphic shows the different root system examples and how —once a native plant is established it would have the advantage of requiring less supplemental watering by its underground root structure.

“Native plants help the environment the most when planted in places that match their growing requirements. They will thrive in the soils, moisture and weather of your region.

That means less supplemental watering, which can be wasteful, and pest problems that require toxic chemicals.

Native plants also assist in managing rain water runoff and maintain healthy soil as their root systems are deep and keep soil from being compacted.”

Additionally, we have installed a water pump at our dock to use for landscape watering thereby not having to use our drinking water supply.
