How It Works

We’re open 24/7 so drop in any time to share your thoughts, experiences and ideas. We have some fun and creative activities for you to participate in and earn prizes. You’re welcome to join a conversation in the Community Café, or start one about something you care about. Plus, keep an eye on the News for thought-provoking articles.

This community was created to bring people with a common passion together so they can share ideas, solve challenges and help create the next innovative new product.  We want you to share your thoughts, ask questions and support and comment on postings made by others. Innovation is a group process, so whether you are part of a team or providing feedback, you are an integral part of driving towards the best idea. Just remember to be respectful of others, and their opinions – no idea is born perfect!

It’s easy to get involved

On a regular basis we will invite you to participate in new activities, including poll questions and discussions. These activities will be displayed on the dashboard and you will be notified by email when News posts are added as well. Completing activities and logging in regularly will help you earn Creator Coins – and the more Creator Coins you have, the more often you will be entered into our prize drawings.

You can also share your thoughts and opinions by commenting, by completing quick surveys, or by chatting with others in the Community Café, our central space for sharing ideas.

Idea Submission Phase – Once you’ve read the challenge instructions and come up with your inspiring idea, it’s time to share it with the rest of the community. Give your idea a title and a description, add any supporting images, videos and documents that help describe and clarify your idea, and click “submit” or save a draft and submit when you’re ready. We also encourage all Creators to build on the ideas by commenting on those posted by others, and providing constructive support to make them even better.

Expert Review Phase – The ideas submitted are reviewed by an expert panel, which may include the moderation team, special guests in the community, and/or members of the Rust-Oleum team. The expert panel will choose the best idea(s) as challenge winner(s) based on the following criteria: solves the challenge, market fit, creativity and comprehensiveness.

Support Phase – After the submission phase closes and the experts have reviewed the submissions, all community members will have a specified amount of time to support the final ideas that are their favorite. The amount of Creator Coins with which you are able to support ideas is directly related to your level in the community and the number of Creator Coins you’ve earned. Be selective about which ideas you support because if you support one of the winning ideas you can get double your Creator Coins back! Check out the Rewards page for more information on levels and supporting ideas.

Winner Recognition – We celebrate the winning ideas selected by you and the expert panel! Winners will receive Creator Coins, prizes and possibly other goodies. See the Rewards page for more information.

How to support an idea

Supporting an idea takes less than a minute of your time. Go to the idea that you want to support, scroll down to the “support” section, and decide how many Creator Coins you want to use to support the idea. The maximum number of Creator Coins that you can use to support an idea is based on your level and your point balance. Check out the Rewards page for more information on the levels, and supporting ideas, or your own level page to see which level you’re at and how many more Creator Coins you need to earn to reach the next level!

Earning Creator Coins

By participating regularly in the community, you will continue to earn Creator Coins. Some activities that you will earn Creator Coins for include logging into the community regularly, answering quick questions and completing surveys. In addition, submitting and supporting ideas when we host challenges could have a big impact on your point balance!
