Tell us about your 'Color of the Year' project. What did you create and how did it go? Are you happy with the final product?

Thanks to Creator's Studio Color of the Year spray-paint gift, I was inspired to retrieve this decades-old rustic mirror shelf from the basement. I cleaned it, gave it a hand-sanding, and replaced a missing peg. After three coats had thoroughly dried, I used metallic gold and blue acrylic for the dots and white acrylic for the daisies. I tried not to overdo it, but knowing when to stop is challenging. I'm happy with the final product. This will be an early Mother's Day gift for my sweet mom because I can't wait till May 12 :)

I had an issue that could've been way worse. I sprayed the finished project with Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Lacquer; my first time using it. For some reason, the blue paint on the upper left side bubbled up as if I had applied a paint remover. I scraped off about 6" of blue paint, dots, and daisies as best I could, sprayed the blue paint onto a sponge brush and redid that area. I would've been so bummed if that happened to the whole thing! I'd love to know what caused this so it doesn't happen again. Maybe I shouldn't have used the lacquer over the blue spray paint? The blue paint had been dry for a couple of weeks before spraying with the lacquer. I waited four days after repainting before applying a brush-on clear coat that I'm accustomed to using.

[From @Katy, Product Support: That's great you were able to get your project back on track! Since the base paint bubbled up with the lacquer and only in one area, this would indicate that there was something on the surface that prevented the paint from fully adhering and allowed it to react with the lacquer. Typically, this will be surface contamination of some sort. Since the surface was older, there could have been some stubborn dirt or grease on the surface, or if that area was held a lot during application then oils from the skin could have transferred. If the paint and lacquer were not compatible, then this reaction would have happened everywhere the lacquer was applied and not just in one area. Let me know if there are any other questions with this!]

Thank you, Creator's Studio, for the paint and inspiration! I'm looking forward to gifting this and seeing my mom's reaction!

This Satin French Blue color of the year is a lovely soft blue. It sprayed on smoothly and dried quickly after the first, second, and third coats. I envision using this on indoor and outdoor projects, and I already have ideas keeping me awake at night!
