Update your home’s exterior with a painted front door. Rust-Oleum® Door & Trim Paint lets you paint and close your door on the same day.
- For new pre-primed steel, fiberglass or wood doors, clean the door’s surface with soap and water and let dry before painting. If your door is bare metal or wood, it is recommended to prime with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3® water-based paint primer first. We suggest painting new and existing doors off the frame to allow the door to completely dry before hanging. If painting a hanging door, to prevent it from sticking to the frame, do not close the door until the paint it is fully dry.
- Be sure to thoroughly stir the can of Rust-Oleum® Door & Trim Paint, shown here in the color Alpine Gray to ensure all the pigment is evenly dispersed.
- If painting your door with a roller, either a 6-1/2" shed-resistant roller with a 3/8" nap or a high-density foam roller is suggested. For brush application, a premium quality 2” or 2-1/2”angled sash, 100% nylon or nylon/polyester blend brush is recommended. For best results, use the roller to paint the entire door or use a brush to paint the recessed edges of raised panels and then use the roller for the remaining flat surfaces.
- If a second coat of door paint is needed, it can be applied within an hour and your door will be ready to hang once fully dry in 6 hours.
