Which Challenge did you win?

The one of most recent challenges I won was the title of spookiest scares in the Spook-tacular Halloween Challenge 👻

What did you love and what were your struggles with this project?

There were a lot of learning situations and challenges and this project.

It is a twist and different focus making something ugly and creepy. Fun being playful with using different techniques. Using dollar tree, artificial nails to custom cut the creatures fingernails and making zombie dentures to insert. Have a removable tongue, so that the tongue has a shaker quality and could be positioned differently. Comedic twist with the scream character to pair with.

Struggles using clay, newer medium to me. Immense difficulty creating dimensional hair -there were many fails. The clay hair corded spikes came out the way I liked. It was much too fragile to consider leaving using air dry clay. Some multiple attempts were tried, even jute hair - starting all over again was a very reoccurring fact. Trying to figure out something that would work.

General struggles: I am not a trained artist, so my ongoing struggles are knowing when the product is finished. Deadlines can be difficult as I am more random and laxadasical undisciplined in creative activity. Big problem I have is being immune to mistakes and flaws in the project while being immersed in a project, I often fail -to notice the flaws -until it’s on display months days and years later. Much like the case with this project. Later I did decide that proportions are off. The decaying hat at the base was too narrow. Feet a bit short in length.

Coincidentally I am in the process of building it up now it’s on the bench with filling out the circumference of the base on the head and feet -- will need repainting. Actually I altered my other gnome entry Rein too for the same hat problem. I might need an anatomy lesson of heads wearing hats.

This is a common thing that I go through not seeing some perspective or problems and seeing them later on when I’m less intensely solely focus on the project. I am also in the process of developing cataracts and I do see a difference in my photographs with what I think I’m seeing in my mind's eye, so personal perception can be a creative issue too.

In closing, I have to say that I truly appreciate the opportunity to participate here and have an inspiration to create projects. I have to say some of my favorite projects were ones that did not win the challenge. So there’s gratitude for the privilege of creating for the entry. I feel like I have a virtual portfolio here that would not exist without the site’s activities causing the creative response.

"This truly is a CREATORS STUDIO."

Enquiring minds want to know -- what did you do with your prize winnings?!

Purchased crafting supplies on Amazon. A spray tent was a thrilling indulgence made possible. Stamps, silicone molds, mica powder and yes - three tubes of my beloved epoxy putty -- the $150 winnings went quickly loading that cart.

Are you still DIYing?

Absolutely…creatively crafting > more than home DIY. Paint is an undeniably part of my routine creative adventures.

What projects do you currently have on the go?

Trying to tie up some outdoor garden landscaping refurbishments before the outdoor spray season closes.

  • Repainting my resin tree creatures
  • Repainting my wren house
  • Restoring birdhouses and installing purchased metal entry plate portholes
  • Repainted the metal topper to my suet feeder

There is a pallet to decoratively paint yet I wonder if we really need to replace the one that rotted… Want to distress bleach some flannel shirts to further embellish in the future likely appliqué ….and the ongoing war with weeds in the garden.

Our $$$ mulch had been supporting monster suzed crabgrass groan….

What's your favorite part of the Creator's Studio community? How would you describe this community to a friend?

Favorite……probably activities —- to do something creative.

Truly a blessing to find this community. Too many wonderful attributes to list

  • Activities
  • Inspirational
  • Community support
  • Inclusive-the opportunity to be creative
  • Educational Informational —-just adore the ask the experts -to problem solve, whats new features
  • Cutting edge products introduced and sampled (oh that comfort grip, gator sander and more)

Bonus: if you could dream up an epic DIY Challenge, what would it be? (And what 🏆 prizes would you offer?!)

I'm not sure epic is absolutely necessary. Enjoy the challenge that everyone uses the same item. It's fascinating to see the ideas and creative twists. Enjoy the product sampler gift packages reward given with some challenges. Often it is a product I might have not purchased and the introduction and product sampling was appreciated. I often wonder if we could have more challenges with smaller prizes like this vs the big gift card ones. I personally like the kick in the pants just to do something.
