Some of you know SeaBeeMarket from her win in the Rust-Oleum RockSolid Home Guest Bathroom Challenge with her amazing 9 Day Solo Renovation project. Today, we're learning all about this creative DIYer (and her adorable little helper) in this member feature.
Why did you join Creator's Studio?
A couple of years ago I saw an ad on Instagram and had to see what it was all about, I’m glad I did!
What's your favorite part of the Creator's Studio community?
My favorite part of the CS community is probably getting to share inspiration and be inspired by other members. Everyone is always so kind and supportive as well!
How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?
I’m a former corporate employee, turned stay at home mom, turned small business owner. I found my passion for woodworking after my daughter was born. My daughter’s birth was traumatic and left me suffering from PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Five days after she was born my husband returned to work in Trinidad. Without any local family or friends, I had 45 days of solitude and no sleep. It was all pretty rough and changed my perception of reality. I needed to find an outlet and regain some sense of self and pride. When I started creating I realized how therapeutic it was. Being able to focus intently on a project cleared my mind, and the finished product was something I could look at and think, “I did that!” I loved making things so much I started selling them and the rest is history.
What creative areas do you like to focus on?
I love to try anything new. Recently I started watercolor painting for the heck of it and I really enjoy it. However, I spend most of my time making crafts with my daughter and crib mobiles for my business.
What is your favorite Rust-Oleum product?
I love the Chalked Linen White. I use it on so many projects. It’s a great true white paint to cover just about anything and it’s fast drying.
How has it helped with your DIY projects?
Having a product with great coverage and a fast dry time minimizes the amount of time spent painting and the number of coats needed. Saved time = saved money. It’s also readily available and at an excellent price point when compared to other chalk paints.. so it’s all around the perfect product for my needs!
What interests you most about DIY projects?
I love learning new things and challenging myself. Every new DIY project comes with its own set of challenges and learning curves. And at the end of the day, I love the feeling of accomplishment.
What's the best DIY project you have completed and how did you accomplish it?
Goodness, that’s a tough one. I have redone nearly every room in my home. I repainted my kitchen cabinets, did overhauls on both bathrooms, and turned our third bedroom into a craft room/office/guest room hybrid. I don’t think I can choose one, I love them all too much!
What's the most difficult project you have tackled?
The most difficult project was the recent bathroom makeover I did for the RockSolid Home floor paint challenge. I went off of the original deadline date and did the whole room on such an intense time crunch I wasn’t sure I’d get it done! In the end it was worth it, of course, because I had a beautiful bathroom and winning was a huge thrill!
If you could create any type of project (with no limitations), what would you design and why?
I would absolutely love to design a layout for a custom-built home. That’s a huge project, but it would be awesome to have the perfect layout and aesthetic design for our family!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.
My first job was as a fishmonger.
What's the best advice that anyone has ever given you?
An old boss once told me “Courtney, we’re not curing cancer,” when I was really stressed out about some deadlines at work. That was over 10 years ago and I regularly use that phrase to put life into perspective when I get overwhelmed.
What book(s) are on your nightstand right now?
My watercolor sketchbook!
What's your all-time favorite food?
Fresh stone crab claws from my family’s fish market!
