The best part of this online community is our amazing members - and today we are happy to be getting to know @tossedaside a little better.

Why did you join Creator's Studio?

I joined Creator's Studio because I've been a long-time user of Rust-Oleum products and enjoy being around creative people.  It was exciting to find a group of people who shared my love of spray paint and DIY projects!

What's your favorite part of the Creator's Studio community?

My favorite part of the community is the overall positive spirit among its members and organizers!

How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?

I am a high-school English teacher who loves helping students become better writers.

What is your favorite Rust-Oleum product? How has it helped with your DIY projects?

My favorite Rust-Oleum product has to be the Imagine Intense Glitter Paint. I love the subtle yet sparkly shine it added to the Christmas ornaments I made this year.

What interests you most about DIY projects?

I'm always up for a challenge!

What's the best DIY project you have completed and how did you accomplish it?

The best DIY project I tackled was updating an old dresser that I purchased from the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.  I loved the shape of the piece, its lines, the hardware...but not the color.  I used chalk paint to recover it (without having to sand or prep) and distressed the edges a bit.  It was the first piece of furniture I tackled, and I was pleasantly surprised with the results!

What's the most difficult project you have tackled?

This summer, my husband and I built a paver-patio and fire-pit for our backyard.  It was by far the most challenging project I've ever done -- physically and mentally!  The dozens of "how-to" videos we watched made it seem so easy, but we struggled to get it level. We never did!  Instead, we dubbed it the "the wave" and really enjoy it despite its imperfections.

If you could create any type of project (with no limitations), what would you design and why?

If I could, I would design a she-shed/craft studio - a  place for creating as well as storing my supplies and junk. It would be nice to have a place to spread out and get as messy as I want.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know about you.

Most people don't know that I co-wrote a vegetarian cookbook (Meatless Meals for Kids).  It was published many years ago, but you can still buy a used copy on Amazon for five cents!

What's the best advice that anyone has ever given you?

"If there's a will, there's a way."  My mother always told me that if you want something badly enough then you'll find a way to make it happen.

What book(s) are on your nightstand right now?

None at the moment; it's hard to find time to read for pleasure during the school year. I make up for it during the summer months, though.

What's your all time favorite food?

I love really good crabcakes.  I live in Maryland so they're easy to find.

Thanks for letting us get to know you, @tossedaside
