Mermaid 2 ways

Achievement unlocked!

I have been wanting to paint a mermaid for years. I have even started projects + ended up painted over them. Frustrated I could never get proportions + subject placement correct. Only 3 days to do both projects, realized thanks to Cricut + Rustoleum. Delighted both forms of unproven stenciling methods yielded results.

#1-Paint by stencil

For this project it was fluid reactive project with results determining pathway -outcome. Thought I was going to do a B&W tattoo stencil sort of painting and put thinned paint washes in......

Started by making an image of the actual painting by drawing outlines and removing the background and to make a cut file. After creating the file both a vinyl + transparency stencils was made by Cricut.

After priming the piece of fiberboard I feel conflicted about using the vinyl stencil and have adhesive potentially pull off the primed finish off the smooth fiberboard. Advice given @katy respected + honored.

Changed my direction and use the transparency to stencil in bubbled outlines in a paint by number fashion to transfer the cut image on primed board surface. This allowed me to perfectly placed the image and have the correct portions. Changed intended direction + used traditional painting methods to fill in the stenciled outline finally to complete my mermaid project.

#2-Bansky inspired

Learning adventure 1st time try at this questionable idea.

2 clip art + mermaid image cut files made and combined together on design space. Primed canvas an urban looking gray with addition of white outline where stencil will be placed. Image cut, weeded + placed with transfer tape, tape removed. Some background paint on canvas unfortunately removed. Spray painted 2x black onto masked stencil.

After paint was dry - vinyl stencil weeded off.

Headphones overpainted with red Ultra Cover as a color pop.

Some minor touchups done-irregular spray painting effect deliberately left. Sealed with matte sealer.
