With the entire world shut down we have been experiencing serious cabin fever! My daughter especially. A few days ago we took on this project and I’m excited to share it with y’all - even if it doesn’t meet competition guidelines I still planned to share it anyway ❤️

When my husband got home from work we decided to use this “down time” to work on Operation Ultimate Backyard Playground. It’s not completely finished yet, but we got a huge chunk of it done and one of our favorite parts is the permanent hopscotch!

We were donated some old pavers from a neighbor and I had all of the materials on hand already to bring this part of the project to life, so essentially it was free. Can’t beat that, right?

This is how we executed the project:

• started by pressure washing the pavers and letting them dry in the sun.

• using a roller and some chip brushes we painted the pavers using charcoal chalked paint. I chose this paint because it’s thick and less likely to soak into the paver as it dries (aka less coats & painting time!) plus it dries super quickly so we were able to knock out this part really fast.

• once the paint was dry I cut some vinyl stencils with my silhouette of 10” numbers and applied them to the painted pavers.

• We painted over the stencils with more chalk paint to help keep the colored paint from bleeding under the stencil. Vinyl will notoriously not seal well to porous and uneven surfaces, and this step helps avoid lots of touch ups.

• Once the overlay of chalk paint was dry we used detail brushes to paint on acrylic paint in fun colors for the numbers. It took a couple of coats.

• After the colored paint was dry we peeled the vinyl stencils off and had almost perfect numbers! I used detail brushes to fill in and fix any peels or paint bleeds we had and let everything dry overnight.

• The following morning I applied two coats of RO clear spray paint to help seal everything in.

• Once everything was dry we set the permanent hopscotch in place! We LOVE it!
