Inspired by the Jenga blocks, I made a wood art mirror! Once I centered the mirror on the backing, I marked its spot. I measured and cut various lengths of dowels and paint sticks and placed them in a pleasing pattern around the mirror; I numbered them to keep track of placement.

Next, painting and staining the wood pieces. The pretty Ruby Accent Paint went on smoothly and covered in one coat; I also used acrylic paints on the wood pieces. Using a sponge brush, I stained the Jenga blocks, the top and bottom dowels, and the corner molding; I did not wipe off the excess. I colored the small hearts with the paint pen.

Once I attached the mirror to the backing with mirror mastic, I glued down the wood pieces. Gluing was easy using a hot glue gun and black glue sticks. This was my first time using black glue sticks; I was impressed. I tried removing a dowel quickly after placing it and couldn't; I pried it off with a screwdriver. The hearts were attached with double-sided tape to be changed for holidays/seasons.

The cut edges along the sides needed covering; that's where the corner molding came into play. With wood glue and hot glue, I glued the molding in place. I covered the mirror and gave the unit a coat of Crystal Clear Enamel. I added a sawtooth hanger to the back. My project ended up weighing 10 pounds and measuring 24" x 25".

Sadly, my sweet Dad passed away on 3-3-24 at the age of 90. This project was therapeutic. Thank you, Rust-Oleum, for the challenge :)
