I had a vision for this chair from the moment I noticed it at an estate sale despite it's old and dated upholstery job & pillow topping the seat. However, I quickly learned upholstery is not for the faint of heart!

-After removing a million staples (holy moly it's not fun!) I filled the holes with wood puddy

-Then came the fun part--Painting the wood base with layers of chalk paint!

-I really wanted the wood finish to pop against the fabric colors so I glazed to add depth to the gray paint color & the floral wood carvings that made the chair unique. Then a bit of dry brushed white over the top helped make the floral carvings stand out even more.

-After the layers dried I applied Rustoleum matte topcoat to protect the finish.

-Upholstery webbing was used to increase the strength of the back & seat. Simple 2" memory foam and batting was used to make it comfortable to lean/sit on. The batting was wrapped around the corners of the seat to prevent the wood edges from being felt when sat on.

-Then I selected my fabric to match the antique look for the bedroom (a watercolor floral in yellow and gray), and after laying it out to figure out which parts of the fabric would show once upholstered I cut to fit the chairs front & back.

- Using spray adhesive to keep the foam and batting layers together, I then stapled the batting as close to the inside edge as possible to prevent overlap of staples when applying the fabric. This was the hardest part because the wood was in pretty bad shape from previous reupholstering jobs and the million staples I had removed in the beginning.

-After repositioning the fabric, ripping it up, and starting over twice I finally got it right & Stapled everything in place!

-To finish it off and cover the edging/staples I glued some rustic double welt cording around the front & back edges & slid the removable seat in place, and sprayed with neverwet to repel future stains.
