Community Fire Hydrants

I need help,

My Community paints the fire hydrants every 3 years. Last time I used spray paint that was flat and they came out horrible in my opinion. It was not Rust-Oleum. I went to local Home Depot this morning to find gloss paint and I was asked why not paint them vs spray paint? Other then speed I didn’t have an answer, do you?

There are 2 colors for every fire hydrant. Red for body, Silver, Blue and green tops. What color would you suggest to use? My picture is Gloss Sunrise Red.

last time, I took a piece of cardboard, cut out a half circle to fit around the top (color portion) and spray painted the separate two colors.

How would you paint your local fire hydrants??
