Hydro Dipping help!!

My son wants to try hydro dipping and i've never done it before.  I know there are people in here that do it.  What would be a good object to start with? Any advice for a first timer? are there paints to stay away from?  I've read tutorials etc, but I thought I would ask here before we tried it. Thanks!!
