Care of antique wood
Submitted to Archive: Interior Wood Care
- Hi Jessica! Over the last decade, I've lived in a humid-ish climate - Germany, South Carolina, and Missouri. All of which experience a little dryness over the winter months (with the heaters on) but plenty of humidity during the summertime. I've recently moved to super dry New Mexico. I have an antique English wardrobe (built in the 1880s) that I've been moving around with me since Germany. Up until now, I hadn't thought about the climate. However, since moving, I've found that the doors pieces rub more than normal and the pieces don't fit like they used to. Should I be using wax on it in this dry climate? Or will wax take away from the antique finish? Or is there something else I should be using instead? Thanks for your insight!
