One mans trash another woman's treasure!
Describe your item and its condition before the transformation
When I negotiated a free trade for this amazing piece initially had no idea how beautiful it would become. My brother in law actually picked this up on the side of the road for "bulk trash pick up" and traded me a more traditional dresser for it. It was in pretty bad shape with the mirror still intact but missing any way for it to attach to the dresser itself I knew it had potential. The finish was so destroyed and scratched I was not sure if I could successfully refinish it. Now the dresser is in my master bedroom which I use daily and get compliments on from everyone that walks in! It has been transformed into one of my favorite pieces of furniture to date.
Explain what you did to turn your item from Trash to Treasure
After careful stripping and sanding for what seemed like days and hours that would never end it was finally a clean slate for my creative design to transform. The sanding had to be done ever so cautiously not to damage the veneer on the dresser and each detailed leg and nook in the wood design had to be hand sanded until a uniform finish was achieved. Next staining the top and painting the drawers with the teal accent color I have in my master bedroom I then decided I had to make it better so I also stenciled fun metallic silver swirls using a Rust-Oleum metallic aluminium enamel paint and found drawer pulls that suited my taste to attach on a unique angle. The top of the dresser is stained with a dark finish and Rust-Oleum Triple Thick Polyurethane which I added star glitter to (stars are my favorite) last but not least I took the legs off an old end table and sanded them down and finished to match the dresser and drilled holes to modify the dresser and legs to complete the dresser to attach the mirror which brought the whole piece together and now looks more beautiful than I ever pictured.
