All of my projects start out with Krud Kutter for cleaning and surface prep and Zinsser primer for a smooth surface, strong adhesion, and tannin blocking.

I started by sanding down the top of the table with 120 grit. The surface came out beautifully and it inspired me to create a picture with it as the frame. Part 1 of the #trashtotreasureIII makeover was creating a dry-erase board for my kitchen. I white-washed the wood with white latex paint watered down 2:1 and then painted the frame with a matte metallic paint. I cut adhesive vinyl on my Silhouette Cameo to create the days of the week and some lines beneath for adding in daily tasks, extracurriculars and even a menu plan for each day. I covered the entire board with window film to create a dry-erase/chalk marker/grease pen surface that can easily be wiped off.

Part 2 of the Trash to Treasure makeover was coming up with a project for the base of the coffee table. I dismantled the table bottom from the base frame and sanded it smooth. I painted the front of the base with chalkboard paint and the edges with chalk paint. I cut the base frame to create a shelf and attached to the front of my chalkboard to hold chalk, mail, homework etc. This was attached with wood glue and screws drilled in from the back.

Part 3 of the makeover consisted of using the coffee table legs to create rustic pedestal candles. I cut the legs at varying heights on my mitre saw. I traced a quart paint can on mdf and cut circles with my jig saw. These were attached to each (portion of) table leg to create a candle plate. I gave them a light sanding and then painted them with three coats of chalk paint followed by a coating of wax to protect them.

Part 4 (not shown yet) is using the drawer to create a serving tray.

Almost no wood went to landfill after this coffee table makeover and only a few scrap pieces of mdf were brought in.
